Dental Bridges

Dr. Lipkin may recommend a bridge be utilized to replace one or more teeth. These restorations are cemented onto the teeth and are referred to as "fixed" dentistry as opposed to a restoration of missing teeth with a removable appliance or partial denture.

Bridges are natural-looking dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth. Because they are custom-made, bridges are barely noticeable and can restore the natural contour of teeth as well as the proper bite relationship between upper and lower teeth.

Fixed Bridges		Bonded Bridges
Artificial teeth are set between crowns placed over adjoing natural teeth. Natural teeth are shaped to receive crowns and form the bridge.		One or more artificial teeth are fastened to metal wings. The metal wings are bonded to the adjoining anchor teeth, forming a bridge.

Porcelain, gold alloys or combinations of materials are usually used to make bridge appliances.

Although you can't get cavities in your tooth replacements, they are potential food and plaque traps. To keep supporting teeth and gums healthy, you should brush and floss diligently or use interdental cleaners that can clean between teeth, such as a floss threader to help you clean around your new bridge.
